Member Spotlight
Featured: Rep. Carl Vinson (D-GA) was one of the most influential figures in the history of American defense policy and the longest-serving member of Congress at the time of his retirement. Representing Georgia from 1914 to 1965, Vinson chaired both the Naval Affairs and later the House Armed Services Committee, where he played a central role in shaping U.S. military readiness through two world wars and the Cold War. Known as the “Father of the Two-Ocean Navy,” he was instrumental in modernizing and expanding the Navy and Air Force to meet global challenges. When asked if he would consider serving as President Truman’s Secretary of Defense, Vinson replied, “No. I’d rather run the Pentagon from up here.”
